Exciting breakfast recipes can be the kick-start you need for a dreary weekday morning, or the special beginning to your weekend. Either way, Indian breakfast ideas can set you up to be in a good mood all day!

Having been brought up by Indian parents while living in England, I was able to cherry-pick the best bits from both cultures and bring them together. I’ve always enjoyed inventing culinary hybrids, taking inspiration from my parents’ passion for food and my British taste buds. So I’ve combined my Indian heritage with my English culture to come up with the best healthy breakfast recipes ever!

So don’t be shy, leave the toast alone, put down the box of cereal… Sift through my Indian breakfast recipes and inspire yourself to create something healthy, delicious and a little bit different, for you and your family this morning.

In my eyes, nothing beats an Indian curry. On a warm summer’s day or a chilly winter’s night there’s an Indian curry recipe for all seasons. Having Indian parents means curries have always been a big part of my life and their love for traditional food was instilled in me from a very early age.

I love to experiment in the kitchen and come up with exciting new ideas, but I’ll always be passionate about traditional Indian curries. You just can’t beat a warming bowl of delectable Dhal with some homemade Roti and a steaming plate of fragrant rice!

When I have my parents over for dinner I like to prepare a few of my classic Indian curry recipes and it never fails to bring a big smile to their faces. The complex flavours and tender textures are a real winner all round, and the recipes are a pleasure to cook.

Curry seems to have a bit of a bad rap among health freaks and I think this could well be because of people’s experiences with (low quality) curry houses. We’ve all had that one takeaway where the paper bag is virtually disintegrating from the amount of oil spilling out of the boxes.

When you cook Indian food at home you have more control over what goes in your curry. For example, you can substitute cream for yoghurt, or you can make as much rice as you need, rather than feeling you need to eat a whole tray of it just because you know if won’t keep.

The Indian diet is largely vegetarian, and many Indian curries contain an absolute ton of veg - onions, tomato, chilli, garlic and ginger make up the basis of most. What’s more, the spices used in Indian food have been proven to be good for your health - did you know that turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory? The humble Rogan Josh is basically Ibuprofen in curried form!

What’s more, although some curries do have red meat (usually in the form of lamb), pretty much any protein in Indian food can be substituted for a healthier option. For example, tofu is lovely in a Biryani! Check below for more healthy Indian recipes.

View all Gluten Free

If you feel that your food intolerances or allergies restrict the variety of your diet, it’s time you discovered gluten free Indian food!

Gluten is a protein predominantly found in wheat, but it’s also present in oats, barley and rye and it can cause a range of symptoms if your body is sensitive to it or you have coeliac disease- But you may have found your saving grace in Indian food! If you cook with me, we’ll hardly ever be using oats, rye or barley, and I generally only use wheat flour when I’m thickening sauces or making Roti and Naan.

When thickening sauces you can easily swap wheat flour for gram flour, rice flour, corn starch or you favourite gluten-free flour blend. And it’s even possible to use cornmeal instead of wheat flour when making dough for Indian-style breads!

Gluten free recipes needn’t be a hassle to prepare! Dive in to my pages and scout out the meals that’ll send your taste buds tingling, whether you follow a gluten-free diet or not!
