A cool, refreshing frozen yoghurt drink that's hugely popular in India, which you can make sweet or savoury.
Hari says
Old school lassi is just yoghurt, salt and ice water and if you think about it, it makes complete sense that this is what you'd drink in India's hot climate. It's cooling, refreshing, and replaces fluid and salt. That said, sweet lassi is more about personal taste than being an effective thirst quencher, and I make lots of smoothies (especially for breakfast in the summer or when we're on holiday). This has really been my inspiration for using fresh, seasonal fruit which has translated really well into the traditional lassi.
- Ingredients
- Method
- 1 mango, peeled, stoned and chopped
- 4 tbsp Greek yoghurt
- Splash of cold milk
- 3 tsp of sugar (or to taste)
- 1 handful of ice cubes
- Sprinkle of cardamom powder
Method
- Put the yoghurt, milk, mango, sugar, ice into a blender and blitz until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into a tumbler and sprinkle with some cardamom powder.
Served with
Great refreshing summer drink

Hi Rajiv Yes this will happen as these will separate - it's fine you just need to give it a good shake and it will taste fine. I hope that helps Hari

Can frozen mangos be used in place of fresh? I think I'll have to do a test run of the Dirty Mango Lassi before I serve it at my dinner party next week! ;-)-

Hi Mixy Honey is actually even better to use - go for natural where ever you can. These will be fine in the fridge for about 2 days but it may need a good mix up before you drink it. Interesting - let me know how the vodka goes down, enjoy. Thanks Hari -

Yes it is... so nice in summer ... I am having them as breakfast. With the protein in the greek yogurt i can keep going until lunch time :-)
I don't normally use sugar. Would honey be a natural replacement?
How long can you keep it refrigerated?
Next stop. Dirty mango lassi! We don't have rum at home, but i will try with vodka to see what happens :-)
Have a great weekend -

Hi Mixy - It's just so refreshing isn't it? Yes you can just remove the seeds and crush them. You should also try the Dirty lassi if you like something a bit stronger! Thanks for trying and enjoying it. Hari -

I tried this for the first time last week and it was amazing
In the absence of cardamom powder, can you use crushed cardamom seeds?
Thanks!!!
