The ultimate spiced lamb burger!

Hari says

I love a burger especially on a Saturday night with a glass of bubbles. It's my night to relax and indulge in some homemade junk food (which isn't junk food at all). We all love a burger and as much as we try to be healthy I don't think there is anything wrong with a homemade burger. They are super easy to make and even better to eat. But what I love is that you can be really adventurous by adding different herbs and spices to the meat patty or create the ultimate toppings and everyone can make their own — happy days!

  • Ingredients
  • Method
  • 400g minced lamb,
  • 1 medium onion, very finely diced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • twist of black pepper
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds, crushed
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • Handful mint, finely chopped
  • sliced cheese

Method

  1. Place the lamb mince in a large bowl and add all the other ingredients and mix together using your hands to ensure all the spices are evenly distributed.
  2. Wash hands and rub them with a little oil. This helps to shape the patty and stops the mixture sticking to your hands.
  3. Split the mixture into 4 portions and shape each one into a patty
  4. Place the burger into a hot griddle, tava or frying pan and cook for 5-10 minutes then turn. Make sure it's cooked through and browned on the outside.
  5. Place some sliced cheese on top of the burger and cover with a pan lid for a few seconds to steam. Remove and place on your toasted bun.
  6. Serve with any burger accompaniments you like - for me it has to be garlic mushrooms, chilli sauce, salad and red onion rings.

Made these minus the onion but plus a tsp of crushed coriander seeds - turned out great! Served with sweet potato fries and went down a treat - everyone was very happy. Have to say though, took me a lot longer than 10 mins to prep - but that included me trying to hunt down the ingredients :)
